 I built Pidgin from source with GStreamer support and didn't have problems
 doing so. I have GStreamer version 0.10.12 installed, with gst-plugins-
 base-0.10.12. I also built these from source, passing "--prefix=/usr" to
 configure (Pidgin has also been built with the same prefix). When I try to
 test the sounds, the debug window says "sound: Unable to create GStreamer
 audiosink.". GStreamer '''is''' working.

 The default prefix for GStreamer is /usr/local and I had originally
 installed GStreamer there. The sounds in Pidgin would work if I set the
 environment variable GST_PLUGIN_PATH and ran Pidgin from a terminal.
 However, if I tried to run Pidgin from an icon, I'd have the same problems
 described above. I tried changing the prefix of GStreamer to /usr to see
 if it would help, but it did not.
