 From what I'm rereading, it seems like you're not getting a crash (Pidgin
 has encountered a problem and needs to close), but rather just a freeze
 due to the expanding window.  I believe this issue is somehow caused by
 the extended preferences plugin.  If you can reproduce it consistently,
 please see if it only happens with that plugin enabled.  Further, if so,
 please report a bug at gaim-extprefs.sf.net after noting which options you
 have set in that plugin.

 I have not been able to reproduce it on my computer so far.
