 QuLogic, please elaborate - I'm a bit of a n00b.

 I did a sudo make install and it appeared to install ok.  But when I ran
 it (plugins are disabled), it refused to log into my company's Jabber
 server.  When I tried removing and re-adding the account, it did not have
 any types of IM accounts available (normally one would be able to pick
 AIM, Yahoo, etc. for a type of IM account).
