Comment (by andrixnet):

 Initial Comment:
Ever since I first used gaim (v0.9x) I noticed this :

happens randomly, but on 2 different win98 systems some
programs crash while gaim is running, or just after it
 starts.

2 most often are EXPLORER.EXE and TOTALCMD (versions
 5.5 and all later).

 Crash message is :
"Microsoft visual C++ runtime library - Runtime Error -
 Program c:\windows\explorer.exe - abnormal program
 termination"

Or standard "has performed an illegal operation" and
 the details say IDLETRACK.DLL.
(right now the other message happened, so I can't add
 the details it gives).

Only happenes when gaim starts or is running for some
 time.
Gaim is set to idle time reporting - windows usage.
Happens at random intervals, and does not always affect
all runining instances of one program. (worst is when
 explorer crashes).

which dialog i get with the error is also random.

I notices idletrack.dll comes with gaim.
Since I just created my account at SF, I report this as
 well.

win98 on a newly installed system, which has been running
for 3 days now, and the following error :
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
 module IDLETRACK.DLL at 01a7:70d016bb.

 I just got another error.

 win98, gaim-2.0b3

 Windows is up since yesterday.
I used gaim today for several hours, then i closed it.

When i started gaim again, just as the buddy list appeared,
i moved the mouse over the taskbar when I get this error,
 see attachement.

I have never been able to get anything from debugger.
I had many crashes if windows and some programs were running
for a long time then start gaim.

now that i switched over to 2.0b3, i get a similar problem,
also unable to pinpoint it. This is a fresh install of win98
 also. (on 2 computers already).

if computer ran for a long time (try a day or so), i get this:

total commander just crashes and closes.
explorer (yes, the taskbar) crashes with a close dialog, but
if i press close, it reappears right away, and only if i
move the mouse over the taskbar. explorer itself doesn't
 close, just gets unusable.

if i close gaim, i get it functioning again.

i caught another crash, this time "deskmenu.exe" from
 powertoys died.

however, it died with error "runtime error" i described in
the original report, and dr. Watson did not catch it. :(
However, i think they are related and maybe a fix using the
crashreport, will work for this type too.

 i just caught a crash.
having totalcmd running, i just started gaim. it promptly
crashed totalcmd (lucky it wasn't explorer.exe this time).

 I attach 2 dr.watson reports.

the close window said the crash was in idletrack.dll

It'll be next to impossible to track this down with out some
 sort of stack trace.

Please follow the instructions for using dr. watson from:
 http://www.hotcomm.com/FAQ/FAQ_drwatson.asp
and post the crash log to this bug when you get one (no need
to email the crash long to the address listed to in the FAQ).
