 That actually looks like you have everything you need for Pidgin, just not
 for those test commands I gave you. Try this one instead:
 {{{
 gst-launch-0.10 playbin uri=file:///path/to/some/sound/file !
 autoaudiosink
 }}]

 2.0.1 also has an ALSA choice in the Sound method dropdown. You may want
 to try using that.
