Comment:

 Yes, some people do maximize their buddy lists, and no removing those
 buttons is not something pidgin should be doing, it is something your
 window manager should be doing (since pidgin isn't drawing those buttons
 in the first place). pidgin could hint that it wants them removed but
 since they actually belong on the window having pidgin do that would be
 wrong. A plugin could probably set the correct hints on the window, as
 could an external tool (something like devilspie).
