 I suffer from *exactly* the same issue, on Windows. Using version 2.2.2,
 and if I recall it right, only for two contacts, the conversation (new,
 when everything was closed) appears directly, and not as a blinking icon
 at the systray.

 I don't know if these info. is useful, but I use AIM, MS Messenger, and
 XMPP (Google Talk). The two users I'm mentioning, are on the MS Messenger
 network.
