Comment:

 Switching to an account that you have not told pidgin is a viable
 alternative for that buddy is not an acceptable thing for pidgin to do.
 Doing this would be entirely wrong for buddies which are not on both
 accounts and would often be wrong for buddies who just happened to be on
 both lists. That being said, contacts are the right solution for this and
 pidgin at this point prompts you to create a contact when it thinks you
 might want to do that (renaming buddies and adding buddies with the same
 local alias I believe).

 I'm going to close this request as I don't think this is a good feature to
 implement as requested and that the contacts feature in pidgin is the
 correct solution to this 'problem'. Patches to help make creating contacts
 easier, more obvious, or more automatic (with confirmation) are always
 appreciated.

 In case it isn't clear, automatically switching accounts presents a danger
 of sending messages to people that you didn't intend to send them to as
 well as opening up the danger of exposing a screen name to a buddy that
 you didn't intend for them to know (think work and home accounts for
 example).
