 I am encountering the same problem.
 Sometimes I get a windows socket error 10060, when I try to log in to ICQ.
 Often it works, but sometimes it doesnt. Then I have to wait some time,
 until it works again.
 I get this error on XP SP2, Vista, both 32bit and Ubuntu 64 bit. I got
 this error on all versions I tried, which is every one from Gaim Beta 3.1
 to 2.2.2.
 The wired thing is that once I get this error, I have to click on connect,
 but Pidgin doesnt even try to connect, at least it doesnt show the
 connection in progress symbol.
 On XP I use zonealarm security suite, on Vista Avira Antivir, on ubuntu
 nothing. Sometimes I have the windows firewall turned on, other times not.
 So I dont think it has anything to do with the firewall.
