 You cannot remove the very first character using control-backspace if it
 is a symbol character:

 1) Type in the string "]fdsa fdsa fdsa" (note the symbol in the front of
 the string).

 2) Now hitting control-backspace repeatedly should delete not just
 characters, but words, eventually clearing the WHOLE string away in the
 chat message box.

 3) However, you cannot completely delete the last character if they are
 symbols or punctuation marks such as . [ ] * ( ) - etc.
