 I actually fixed this (expect for Guifications' ignorance) by issuing the
 query every 1 minute. Mail time stamps are honored, so only new mail is
 taken into account. Perhaps Google server sends the notifications only to
 those who have a listen port open.

 My question is: does it have to be available as an option ("[X] Enforce
 new mail notifications")? I can submit a patch. A working libxmpp.dll
 sample will be available at [francetelecom.freehost.pl/files/libxmpp.dll].
