Comment:

 It sounds like you have not verified your passport account, and (kindof
 related to other bugs in 2.3.0) are not allowed to set friendly names (for
 yourself or for people on your buddy list).

 You should have received an email with a link in it to verify your
 passport when you signed up for it - do you still have it? if so, does
 verifying the passport resolve this?

 If you do not still have the email then I think you can sign in at
 http://www.passport.net/ and request a new email to verify your passport.
