 I'm using pre-built 2.3.0 from http://pidgin.im/download/windows/
 Using plugins: Buddy State Notification, Markerline, Release Notification.

 I'm also getting some form of this issue. A friend on MSN messaged me, and
 I replied. My display name in that conversation showed up to me as the
 display name of a different friend, until I changed it.  I'm not sure if
 it showed the incorrect name to the friend that messaged me, however.

 Later in the night I checked the MSN/set friendly name dialog, and it
 showed the name of a different friend.
