#3427: Cannot specify a global proxy when using Gnome

------------------------+---------------------------------------------------
I run Gnome in an environment where I need to use two sets of proxy
configurations. All HTTP traffic goes out through a squid proxy, and this
is the Gnome Proxy setting. This proxy rejects any traffic not bound for
port 80, 8080 or 443, and so is not usable for most IM protocols.

I do have a Socks proxy for use with IM (it's OpenSSH). Because I am
using Gnome, I cannot tell Pidgin to just use that proxy. I must change
the preferences of every account (there are several) to the same Socks
values. Should my Socks settings change, I have seven accounts to change.

My suggestion is that instead of completely hiding the global proxy
settings from the network preferences tab, that exactly the same approach
should be used as on the advanced tab of each account. A drop-down list
which, when set to "Use Gnome Proxy Settings" hides all of the proxy
 controls.
