 So the general idea here is to reduce user requests. The problem is that
 the configuration/logs directory is called .purple. If a user doesn't know
 about libpurple, they are using Pidgin and start looking for the
 config/logs directory, they may end up coming to irc/mailing the
 list/other stuff.

 Maybe a symlink/softlink would fix this? I don't know if that's the right
 solution, but I think that some kind of change would help make Pidgin more
 "intuitive".

 If need be I can file a separate ticket for finch.
