 Like I tried to indicate in my last post, the fact that pidgin was able to
 send messages while continuing to be Away was an *enormous* draw for
 users, I would go so far as to say that for a substantial length of time
 this feature and the buddy bounces were the two main reasons people
 mentioned as the impetus for why they switched. It used to be an option in
 pidgin but was removed quite a while ago already, and since removing it
 there have been a total of perhaps 6 or 7 people to have asked for it
 back. (pidgin wasn't the only alternative AIM client to have this feature
 as a major draw, deadaim added it shortly into its existance almost
 assuredly because virtually everyone was asking for it.)

 So no, I don't think it should be an out of the box option. I don't think
 there are large numbers of people who are used to it and wish it was in
 pidgin. In fact I doubt there are more than a handful of people who really
 want it.

 And like I said, a plugin could do this and could likely do it rather
 trivially for that matter.
