 I have a few friends who will use gtalk and aim, so I've sorted them into
 the same name. Both his clients are listed under one name, which is a good
 thing. however pidgin seems to indiscriminately  switch between which
 protocol it sends messages to, which is a bad thing.

 pidgin need the ability to select a "prefered protocol" or a way of
 prioritizing which order to try them in, and if it should ignore "away"
 protocols or not.
