Yes, this is probably the dumbest thing you've ever seen as a ticket, and
I really couldn't find anything about it from my limited searches on the
'net. The goal of my request is that somebody put a small pronunciation
key (i.e. pronounced like "pidgeon": "[pij-uhn]").
Before this ticket is discarded as the workings of a phonetically
challenged idiot, let me explain: I was one of those people that helped
kill the download servers minutes after a new version was published. ;) I
also convinced dozens of people to use Gaim instead of Yahoo, ICQ, AIM,
MSN, despite some failings that the other clients didn't have.
I became disenfranchised with Gaim as soon as 1.5.0 came out and the
updates seemed to stop. I blamed it on Google for having "not taken away"
one of Gaim's primary developers... then, one day, when the little Gaim
logo glinted in my eye just right, I decided to go to the website
(gaim.sourceforge.net) to see if anything had changed. I was magically
redirected to pidgin.im.
"Pid Gin. What a stupid name. I could see Pig din. Rolls off the tongue
more. I'll just call it 'PG' for short." PID GIN. That's how I
pronounced it. Until today, in fact, when something in my brain suddenly
connected the name with the picture to it's left... "You mean it's
supposed to be 'pidgeon'? I can't believe..."
All that being said, I can't imagine that I am the only person in the
world that has had this problem. And in a world where "Favre" is
pronounced "FARVE"... need I say more? Thanks for listening.
