Comment:

 The 'complex log viewer' already exists, it is called your shell or your
 file browser, though neither of those is aware of contacts I'll grant you.
 It would be a minorly useful pidgin plugin which would go through the
 buddy list and set up ~/.purple/logs/contacts/<group>/<contact>/
 directories filled with symlinks to the appropriate
 ~/.purple/logs/<prpl>/<accountname>/<buddyname>/  directories (which would
 allow the shell/file manager to see and search by contact). As to putting
 this in pidgin itself it really is much more the job of a file management
 tool than an IM client to do this. I'll move this to patches welcome with
 the intention that a separate application or the plugin I suggested be the
 welcome solution.
