 The status message will get cut off in the conversation window if the font
 is set too big.

 Set your gtk font settings to size 11 or 12. When a buddy has a status
 message set, the bottom of the status message is cut off. The space for
 both the name of the buddy and the status message is only as tall as the
 buddy icon, which is not tall enough.
