 Right.  Right.  I should have figured that out.  I was thinking msn with
 the ms begining.

 I solved it (I believe).  The issue is that the normal minimum size and
 the minimum size of the "new mail" indicator are different, with the "new
 mail" indicator being a larger minimum.  Hence, you get a new mail and the
 window resizes itself increasing to the "new mail" indicator minimum.
 Then it stays there, even if the new left side is now waaay off screen.
