 When I try to set a JPG that is 96x96 and 3.4 KB, I get an error that it's
 too large (it worked in earlier versions  of Pidgin). Last time I checked,
 XMPP wants an image under 8 KB between 32x32 and 96x96, and supports PNG,
 GIF and JPG. I scaled the image down to 64x64 (7.3 KB) and saved it as a
 PNG, and this works. My guess is that Pidgin converts avatars to PNG, but
 since I'm not a programmer and haven't looked at the code, I wouldn't
 know.
