#2896: Getting disconnected from idle AIM chatroom (HTTP proxy)

I am often using an AIM chatroom and every now and then I get disconnected
from the chatroom, apparently after some time the chatroom is idle (but
varying amount of time, from 5min up to 30min), with the following
 message:

''You have been disconnected from chat room !aol://2719:10-4-XXXX.''

I am behind a company firewall and using an HTTP proxy. XMPP chatrooms are
OK, but I do not use the proxy for them. I know for sure that the HTTP
proxy we use cuts off idle HTTP connections.

I guess these chatrooms use separate HTTP connections and a keepalive
mechanism should be put in place for them, even if not using HTTP proxies
(some statefull firewalls are also cutting off idle TCP connections).

The issue has been present also in previous Pidgin versions.
