Comment (by Kalex):

Sorry, but I swear I've been looking for this problem on Google and
pidgin.im and nothing has shown up!

 Anyway.

A parent directory of my buddyicon directory is called "obrázky", so the á
char is probably what's causing troubles. As for encoding used - beats me,
how do I find out? :) It's originally a WinXP parition and set to mount
automatically in fstab. But my Kubuntu installation is having problems
interpreting filenames which such national characters. Applicatons running
in Wine cannot even open these files and directories, but native Linux
apps can, even if the filenames seem corrupted. I'm still struggling to
 solve these differences.

My system is set to british english, with Slovakia being the location.
