Comment:

 You can't use the additional smileys without modifying the existing theme
 (which isn't recommended as it will be replaced when you reinstall), or
 you can use a different smiley theme that defines more smileys for all
 protocols if you like, of course this has no bearing on whether the person
 you're chatting with will see anything similar.
