 Any chance to workaround this by providing an animated icon that satisfies
 some minimal requirement that would be able to avoid rescaling altogether?
 Like, say, an icon conforming to AOL's specs (48x48 max, 7k in size IIRC)?

 At least until scaling is fixed so that it properly supports animated
 icons..
