 I experience this as well with AIM.

 I can start pidgin with the -n flag and then enable my IRC, YIM, and XMPP
 accounts individually. As soon as I enable my AIM account, memory usage
 makes a steady climb upward until my system is too busy swapping to do
 anything. There's about 1.5GB allocated before my system becomes barely
 usable.

 This occurs if AIM is the only enabled account.

 Pidgin 2.1.1, Ubuntu Feisty
 ./configure '--with-bonjour' '--prefix=/usr' '--enable-debug' '--enable-
 dbus'
 Linux mysystem 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Thu Jun 7 20:19:32 UTC 2007 i686
