Comment:

 I agree with Mark. This would be an entirely different UI, one that might
 be built around libpurple, but like any UI would go substantially beyond
 it.  You would implement the UI to be the daemon (proxy) mentioned above,
 and then write an entirely other program to connect to your UI.
