 Well! I have gotten it working by trying something I saw in a seemingly
 unrelated post. I installed (well, unzipped) the Purple Pack, and voila,
 it works on both machines. I don't know why it would make a difference,
 since it didn't overwrite any dlls at all. But for now, I am going to
 cautiously say that I have fixed it. . .
