Comment:

 In http://www.chipx86.com/blog/?p=195 Chip identifies a lot of ways in
 which GTK+'s tab re-ordering is less than optimal (and would get people
 upset). I don't think it's worth the effort right now to implement an
 alternate tab drag-and-drop mechanism and maintain both in parallel.
