I had this as a part of ticket #999, but it really belongs as its own
ticket; currently the only way to deselect buddies is by ctrl+clicking. I
think the following behaviour makes sense:
1. single click selects buddy
1. double click starts message and ''deselects'' buddy
1. ctrl+click toggles selection
1. multiple ctrl+clicks selects multiple buddies (context menu could then
have a 'Start chat' option)
1. selecting whitespace deselects all buddies
1 and 3 are already the current behaviour. I think 2 should happen
because, once the chat window has been opened, there is no need to bring
attention to the buddy in the Buddy List window.
It might be valuable for people who use the keyboard primarily to comment
on this behaivour too, since I primarily use pidgin with a mouse.
A more radical change, but one I think would be better would be to not
have selection. If you think about it, there's no real purpose for it
(unless you implement something like 4 above). Thus the behaviour would
be:
* mouse over highlights a buddy/group
* mouse out removes any highlight
* single click opens the conversation window
* right click opens context menu (same behaviour)
* keyboard behaviour would remain unchanged, except pressing enter would
finish the selection (i.e. clear selections and open chat with that buddy)
