 This is going to involve adding a purple_util_uninit() in libpurple/util.c
 that frees the two variables. Then we'll need to call that from core.c, I
 believe. We should probably add an empty purple_util_init() for symmetry
 and forwards compatibility.

 This adds API/ABI and thus forces a minor bump. I was going to do it for
 2.2.0, but didn't, so I'll do it when we get to 2.3.0 from something else.
