Comment:

 I think there's a difference here.

 The reason we warn for windows with unknown messages is that you pretty
 much *never* want to do that; if you're trying to close that window, you
 probably didn't notice you *had* unread messages, and an "undo" option
 isn't going to be useful, as you'll have no idea you *need* to undo.

 with that said, ideas are floating around about maintaining IM backlog
 across instances of the chat window, and also having a sort of "Recent
 conversations" menu from which you can have easy access to people you IM
 with frequently.
