Comment:

 The Google Talk service itself has had recent troubles with e-mail
 notifications. The problem is shared by all clients. You should try
 running "pidgin -d" or running with the Debug Window on. If you see any
 mail notifications pass through that don't get reported in the UI, let me
 know. Other than that, the mail notification problem should soon be fixed
 by Google, and your gmail notifications should come back. Let me know if
 they don't.
