Comment:

 In fact, it appears that the update process to go from 2.1.1 only updated
 pidgin and not libpurple, leading to have version 2.2.0 of pidgin and
 version 2.1.1 of libpurple.

 I guess this was the root cause of my issue, because it works fine now
 that I have upgraded libpurple to 2.2.0.

 Sorry to have opened a ticket for nothing.
