#3383: Pidgin Crashes soon after startup
----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
 Reporter: Pyro_fox | Type: defect
   Status: new | Priority: minor
Component: pidgin (gtk) | Version: 2.2.0
Keywords: startup, vista | Pending: 0
----------------------------+-----------------------------------------------
Please note that this problem occurred first in v2.2.0 I tried upgrading
to v2.2.1 and it still occurred. The version I am currently trying to fix
is v2.2.1 (though it isn't a selection I can make in the ticket form).
My Current OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

As the Description says, the program crashes upon startup. It happened the
first time with v2.2.0 back on 9/23/07 according to my application logs. I
dont remember specifically what I did to correct the problem but I think
at the time, after repeated reboots, I redownloaded the installer and
reinstalled the program and it did the trick.

Now it is 9/30/07 and thought pidgin was working fine last night and
earlier this morning on v.2.2.0 I rebooted for a miscellaneous reason and
when pidgin tried start when I logged in to windows. Pidgin will start up
in the system tray, then the buddy list window will appear. and the first
few buddies from AIM will appear then yahoo then windows will pop up an
error saying "Pidgin has stopped working". I tried upgrading to to v2.2.1
however, it produced the same results. I tried completely uninstalling
Pidgin before reinstalling it as well. I also tried running it in
compatibility mode for Windows XP (Service Pack 2) and it seems to get
just a little further in logging in before crashing.

I currently have Pidgin v2.2.1 w/ debug installed. I ran it twice to
develop a thorough report. The first run was just normal; just like it was
running just fine before. The second run was in Windows XP compatibility
mode. I've gone through and scanned my system for any malware or spyware
as well as for any rouge programs I don't remember installing. I haven't
installed any programs immediately prior to Pidgins failure.

I have exhausted all my tricks and hypotheses so any help is welcome.
 Thank you
