 My point is exactly that I see no reason to implement one specific
 alternate buddy list view when there are others at least as useful (I'd
 argue significantly more useful but that's a different topic). As such,
 and since I don't think the core buddy list should support those things, I
 don't think supporting this one is particularly worth it. (It should be
 added that finch does have support for this and other buddy list
 sorting/grouping/etc. options, and that I fully support finch having
 that.)

 Second, if you really don't want to see the groups (and don't use or care
 about the logical grouping they provide) then just move all your buddies
 into one group and deal with the loss of a single line in your buddy list
 window. Unless you are telling me that you constantly switch back and
 forth between the grouped and ungrouped buddy list views I fail to see how
 this doesn't work (it isn't optimal I will grant you that, but it does
 work). If you are constantly switching back and forth then it sounds to me
 like you might be better served with the small list (Buddies->Show->Buddy
 Details turned off) or that you need to find better things to do with your
 time. =)
