Comment (by michaeljf):
I first want to thank you for all your effort with this issue/request.
I guess we are not seeing the same thing. Let me explain what I do
manually as it may help to explain what I am requesting.
In order for others in a room to see me as a chosen name, I must change my
"nick". If I do this with the /nick command, the value will only be good
for that session. In order to keep this value, I must manually edit
'''''C:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Application
Data\.purple\blist.xml'''''
{{{
<component name='handle'>Foo</component>
}}}
By adding the above to the desired room's setting, my name (as seen by
others) remains changed to '''Foo'''. It is this option that I am
requesting be made available somewhere in the GUI so that the file does
not need to be altered manually.
Hope this helps.

> My comment about the inappropriateness of the tab right-click menu is
that the tab is not the chat room let alone the user in the room. The tab
is an interface mechanism by which you multiplex conversations into the
same window. You will notice if you right-click the tab in pidgin
currently the available options all relate to tab functionality and not to
tab content functionality. This is a distinction I feel is correct. I am
less certain in my claims about the input and history areas, but I do
believe I am right that they are also less than optimal for this sort of
thing. If we were to have an MSN-like "this is who you are" pane in the
window (similar to the infopane) then that would be a most appropriate
place for such features, but I think most people (myself included) would
find this unhelpful at best (and horribly annoying at worst).
