 An IM client is most certainly not a 'social text editor' but that's
 neither here nor there. And I can't reproduce your problem here. I just
 pasted a 13 letter word a large number of times (well over 13 lines at my
 window size) and pidgin responded just fine (it might have glitched for an
 instant but if it did I can't be sure I saw it). I was able to scroll
 around, change tabs, delete random bits of the message, etc. all in real-
 time. Can you take a screenshot of your window when it is acting slowly
 and attach it here?

 Also, I didn't ask about what GTK+ package you were using I asked about
 what GTK+ theme. Are you using the MS-Windows theme? The GTK+ Theme
 Selector in the start menu should tell you (but if pidgin looks like a
 Windows application then you are).
