Comment (by Bosmon):

Yes, yet *another* drive-by signup. On downloading the new version I
independently Googled for an issue such as this, read the thread with
mounting outrage, and feel obliged to add myself in as yet another data
point in this depressing example of communication in a distributed project
 "doing its thing" :)

 quoting dernyi:
I have repeatedly asked for constructive help and repeatedly asked not
to be told that the only possible help is to revert the change or add an
 all-or-nothing preference.

Will you please stop trying to bias what you consider could be the opinion
of your user community? The only possible help *is* to add an all-or-
nothing preference, since that is what I, and a large number thread
participants have clearly articulated *is* the top-level feature they
require. I don't know how many repetitions of this process you will
require until you accept that this *is* the constructive help, since what
you are seeing here is users directly demanding the feature that they know
 they want :)

If you consider somehow this request is not "constructive", I can only
assume what this implies is that you believe your users are "wrong" in
what they want (perhaps it violates some UI or design guideline you have
in your mind), and goodness only knows where that line of thinking might
 lead :)

Just to be completely clear - I *do not want any form of auto-sizing
applied to my input area at all*. I do not care how much time and thought
has been lavished on any devlishly cunning algorithm that is provably
"almost always right". I want to decide this height for myself, and I do
 not want it to change.
