 If you send a message with uncommon utf-8 chars to the windows version of
 pidgin, the following error message is showed:

 Pango-Error **: file basic-win32.c: line 485
 (convert_log_clusters_to_byte_offsets): assertion failed:
 (glyphs->log_clusters[glyphix] < n_chars) aborting...

 Then the microsoft visual c++ runtime terminates pidign.

 I use the XMCPP client of pidgin 2.4.1 (GTK+-Runtime 2.12.8) from the
 homepage.

 The following message evoked the crash:
 Ⲛ𝐀𝐹

 For me the bug is reproducible. Perhaps this is a bug in the pango
 library. If I use the debug version, no crash dump is generated.
