 hi, i had the same problem with an older version of pidgin. probably 2.1.1
 or 2.2.0. i upgraded to 2.4.1 yesterday and problem persisted until today.
 i have 2 gtalk accounts and both of them experience the same problem.
 before and after i upgraded to 2.4.1. most of the time they would both get
 disconnected almost at the same time. there are times though that one
 would disconnect about a minute or 2 before the other one would get
 disconnected. now i said the problem persisted until today. today, i can't
 even connect at all. i still get the same error message (Read Error)
 however i'm currently downloading gtalk to check if this is a new problem
 with the gtalk server this time.
