If I knew what to have you look for I would probably know what the problem
is. Since I don't know what the problem is I need you to look for
anything. A number of people in this thread have professed to have
wonderful and stable internet connections but I take all such claims with
a grain of salt because virtually all applications that use the internet
are extremely tolerant to connection faults (including pidgin in a lot of
cases, so much so that we have bugs filed because pidgin doesn't notice
dead connections fast enough for many people). Network monitors are
unlikely to be of particularly large help though they certainly couldn't
hurt and may in fact provide something useful (again it depends on what
the problem is exactly); also the fact that the connection is going to be
encrypted is going to make getting much useful data about it harder
(unless the problem is at a different layer, which it might be).
newbie455: No, it doesn't you can very easily lose connection to only
parts of the internet it all depends on how your connection is set up and
how you are getting there at that moment.
