 /reducing-tab-size.html probably not being changed back. A plugin could
 probably add a normal close button if one really wanted it to (and the
 pidgin preference for the close button was turned off). And for the record
 it is the unicode multiplication sign
 (http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/00d7/index.htm) so it will
 show up as whatever your interface font has for that character so picking
 a font with a version you like better should change/fix it. I'm closing
 this as wontfix because I don't think we will.
