#5542: The textbox in chat/IM window is not resizable after last pidgin update
--------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
 Reporter: lonetwin | Type: defect
   Status: new | Priority: minor
Component: pidgin (gtk) | Version: 2.4.1
 Keywords: | Pending: 0
--------------------------+-------------------------------------------------
This is being reported against pidgin-2.4.1-0 on running on Fedora 7. Till
at least pidgin-2.3.1-0, the text entry box in a conversation window was
resisable. After I updated to the latest version of pidgin, this resizing
 capability disappeared.

IMHO, the text entry box in a conversation window should be resizable, or
at least larger than the current 2 line height. Although I understand[1]
that the entry area will grow if you need to enter more than 2 lines of
text (up to a maximum of 50% of the window height), it still is annoyingly
ugly when you use pidgin (especially for IRC/chat rooms) with the chat
 window maximized to full screen.

I don't need to enter more than 2 lines of text, but would like to see
what I am typing without having to look at the very bottom of the screen.

I did a bit of poking around myself (although I have never looked at gtk
code before) and I *think* this might've been introduced by the fix for
 [http://developer.pidgin.im/ticket/5017 bug 5017].

I hope this is a simple fix.

 regards,
 - steve

 [1] I [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=442322 reported this]
to the fedora pidgin package maintainer first but he just closed the bug,
saying that this is 'by design'. He didn't even explain what he meant by
that (for instance 'this is no longer possible due to the changes
 introduced to fix blah-blah-blah') !!
