 Parting the room and rejoining is all that is necessary (once it has been
 rejoined incorrectly) as (assuming I am correct) that forces the muc
 server to realize you aren't in the room and thus need to be re-sent the
 room member list.

 Since I didn't make my comment here and only in devel at conference.pidgin.im
 I'll restart, what I believe is happening is that on the 'broken' rejoin
 the muc server is not sending room occupant presence to us (presumably
 because it thinks we are still in the room).

 Have you seen this with servers other than ejabberd? (I've only seen it
 recently on pidgin.im and jabber.org both of which run ejabberd, so I'm
 curious.)
