Comment (by rfgiusti):
It '''AMAZES''' me the developers have decided this ticket should be
"wontfix". Over 270 responses for this ticket, 8 other tickets related to
what many users consider a defect, and the developers can't see '''THIS
WAS A BAD IDEA'''! Sorry, Mr. Ethan, but you're wrong. You've got lots of
constructive criticism, many suggestions, complains, patches, a fork and
you still act as the guy who just had the best (but misunderstood) idea on
Earth!
I know options are expensive. But when a change in the UI makes this so
many people unhappy about your software, something must be wrong.
I also know it must be very disappointing to be a developer and get the "I
don't like the new ''<feature>''!" kind of response. But, first of all,
that's not the totallity of your feedback here. Second, if users don't
like the changes you make to your software, and they do whatever they can
do to tell you, why should you not listen to them and consider that a bad
opinion? After all, the only reason you guys are the developers of one of
the most used IM is because users '''like''' all the ''<feature>''s of
your IM, right? What would happen if your users were to hate all your new
''<feature>''s? One thing is sure: you certainly would not be "The
Developers" anymore... instead, woul'd just be "the developers of that
software with a funnny name no one uses". And I'm sure that would not be
very fun for you.
I hope you guys understand. I'm not saying you guys are forced to do what
I think you should do. I'm just asking that you listen to your users.
We've been with you for a long time helping make Gaim (and then Pidgin) be
reckognized as a great software and we would like it to continue that way.
And it's pretty obvious to me that we '''want''' and that many of us feel
like we '''need''' that new feature to be optional.
