 I have a similar problem, which is probably related.

 If I go from "Available" to "Invisible", my AIM status becomes "Away" with
 a message reading "invisible".

 Similarly, if I go from "Available" with a message, my AIM status changes
 to "Away", and keeps the existing message.

 The problem only affects my AIM account; both my MSN and Yahoo accounts
 appear to be working correctly, and invisibility has previously worked
 with AIM.

 I am currently using 2.4.1 built from source on Ubuntu Gutsy.
