Comment:

 Duplicate of #295, which doesn't explain that the reason we have our code
 is because it came about before GTK+ had it and we still attempt to be
 compatible with version of GTK+ older than 2.10.x which is when GTK+ added
 it. I think I may re-open #295 though pending fixes to the couple of
 tickets from the blog post left open and pending pidgin being able to
 unconditionally assume GTK+ 2.10.x.
