Comment:

 You want one log file per day. This has been requested many times before.
 The reasoning is always the same as you: "I close conversation windows
 quite often." Issues of why you're doing that aside, this really shouldn't
 be a problem with the conversation persistence code that we've had for a
 few releases now. Are you running 2.4.1?
